It is hard to visit Houston and not give praise to the downtown area. This is mostly in part thanks to the Downtown District. The District has provided a key role in transforming the area over the last decade or so. The District began working on the area in 1995 with five key goals in mind.
They wanted to accelerate the renewal of the city’s urban core, build a lasting constituency, recruit investors, attract retailers and tenants, promote a vibrant and diverse downtown, and make the area overall cleaner, safer, and more enticing. It is pretty safe to say that the District has accomplished just that. There are now more exciting things than ever to do in the area.
The Minute Maid Park
The Minute Maid Park is without a doubt one of the great sports centers in the downtown area. The park is home to the beloved Astros baseball team. The stadium was constructed and opened back in 2000 and offer quite a unique experience for many baseball fans.
There is a train station theme within the area that reflects a depot. Plus, there is an actual train that rides on the track high above the building. However, this isn’t even the most impressive thing about the park. The most impressive thing is the retractable roof that allows the Astros to play in an indoor and outdoor setting.

Bayou Place
If you are looking for some fun coupled with good food, you have to check out Bayou Place. The area is located right in the heart of the Theater District and is nothing more than a large indoor facility that is home to a number of restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues.

There are sushi bars, Italian restaurants, and there is even a Hard Rock Cafe. One the second floor of the structure, you can choose from four different enticing bars, which are host to a number of live shows on any given night.
